GEOCACHING IN SKAGIT COUNTY

Have you tried the super kid-friendly activity called geocaching? It is an outdoor activity in which the entire family can participate. Geocaching is a lot like a treasure hunt where (you) the treasure hunters use GPS enabled devices (GPS receiver or mobile phone) to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", anywhere in the world. If you like, you can become part of the online geocaching community and share your experiences with other geocachers.

My family loves to hike so we combine that with geocaching on the trails we are hiking. I look up trails with geocaching on my mobile app and then look up the trails on the websites listed under "Hiking" on this website (link) to make sure they are kid-friendly and off we go!

A typical cache is a small waterproof container. The container usually has a logbook inside. The geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it with their name or initials, or an established code name from a geocaching website. Larger containers such as plastic storage containers may have items for trading inside. Usually these would be small toys or trinkets of little value. Don't forget to bring some with you to exchange with the ones you take!
